Overview
Sidney Gomes works at the intersection of accounting, finance, economics and law, bringing a multidisciplinary background focused on analyzing and resolving complex business issues. A forensic accounting expert, independent auditor, economist and lawyer, he is the founder and managing partner of Grupo SGEx, with more than 15 years of experience in forensic engagements, disputes, investigations, auditing and business consulting.
Over the course of his career, he has worked directly on more than 600 projects in Brazil and abroad, advising companies, law firms, administrators, investors and parties involved in disputes of significant technical and financial complexity. His international experience includes engagements carried out in Singapore and Mexico.
His work is particularly concentrated where numbers, business and law intersect. Sidney is involved in analyzing financial statements, financial transactions, contracts, corporate structures and economic-financial evidence to understand, quantify and provide technical support for material issues in litigation, arbitration and out-of-court disputes.
As a court-appointed expert and party-appointed technical assistant, he has experience with business disputes in the civil, corporate, family and succession, tax, corporate criminal and administrative areas, as well as in judicial reorganization and bankruptcy proceedings, investigations, and matters involving oversight bodies and public prosecutor's offices.
In arbitration, he has served as a party-appointed technical assistant in disputes submitted to some of the country's leading arbitral institutions, including the FGV Chamber of Arbitration, the Market Arbitration Chamber (CAM), the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce's Arbitration and Mediation Center (CAM-CCBC), and the CIESP/FIESP Chamber of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
Beyond dispute-related work, he carries out forensic accounting engagements, fraud investigations, business valuations, equity-interest appraisals, quantification of damages and losses, economic-financial analysis and consulting, often in situations where a technical understanding of the numbers is decisive for a business or legal decision.
His defining professional trait is precisely this ability to connect different disciplines to understand a problem beyond the numbers — identifying what truly matters, translating highly technical issues into clear conclusions, and building analyses capable of supporting decisions in highly complex environments.
